Getting Started
So, what's this all about?
This is a Star Trek Role Playing Game in the PBeM tradition. It is mainly single threaded (however there is a section in the forum for side-threads if one chooses). You play a character bound for the long, one-way journey to the Andromeda Galaxy along with other denizens of the Milky Way, Federation and Non-Federation alike. What will happen on this exodus? The choice is yours.
What do I have to do to sign up?
After signing up for the RPG's Forum (See the Starlog section for details) Please post your character form in the Candidate Application section of the Forum, abiding by the rules laid out in this protocol page and the NEW APPLICANTS START HERE thread.
I haven't watched the show, should this matter?
Well, it would be helpful if you are familiar with the Star Trek Universe already...
I. Getting into Character
Can I be a character from the shows?
It is possible. But since this is an original Star Trek game taking place some time after the TNG/DS9/VOY era during a time of desperate war, it's more likely anyone from those shows would be engaged in fighting the Borg War rather than being part of the 'Plan B'
Can I be an original character of my own creation?
Absolutely. Remember though, When I say original, I don't mean Spock's long lost cousin, twice removed on his Mother's side's stepdaughter. Please no relations to existing characters. It's just way too confusing. If you really must do this, convince me.
Can I be a Q?
I may allow it. However please, please (I can't stress that enough) be reasonable about it. No super omnipotent demon-god from the seventeenth dimension, okay? If you really, really must be the super omnipotent demon-god from the seventeenth dimension, convince me you won't abuse that power. Remember, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Can I be a Power Ranger?
Ummmm, no. I'd rather not mix universes... It get's kind of confuzzling...especially if others are not familiar with the rules of that fandom. Anything from the Star Trek Universe is fine, so long as it's chronologically appropriate (and since it's star trek, I'm sure you can come up with a technobable way to make it so)
Can I be a mantle clock?
Ummmm. . .okaaaay. . .
Can I have more than one character?
I will allow it. However I'd start off with only one. If you feel you can handle more than one, please contact me and tell me you are doing so and I will either approve it or disapprove it. It's more than likely I will approve, but I am a power hungry and controlling person and need to maintain absolute iron control over the RPG that is my kingdom. Mwa ha ha ha! (Note the sarcasm)
II. Posting
What should my post header look like?
Your header should go, Charactername - "Post Title"
What person and tense should I write in?
Past tense, third person. He went. She wrote. It was scary.
How often should I post?
It depends on the length and quality of the post. One main-thread post a week if you're writing a page or more of quality writing (A page constitutes Times New Roman, 12 pt with one inch margins or approximately five hundred words.) If you are going to do shorter posts (which, if done well, are allowed) I'd recommend something like two or three posts. A good standard is, five hundred words or more a week.
Can I use internet slang in my posts? Does spelling and grammar matter?
Please don't use internet slang. It looks ugly and immature, and can tend to get annoying. As for grammar and spelling, Of course they matter, but I'm not going to get out my red pen and start correcting your work or anything. Just make sure it is legible. If your first language isn't English, don't be discouraged, I'm not going to get all mean and nasty over a few misspellings (I am a horrible speller myself) and some missing commas.
